WHAT IS RECODING THE BOYS' CLUB
Our study provides the first-ever in-depth look at women’s experiences in political tech on presidential campaigns from 2004-2016. This extensive research report is based on an analysis of a dataset of 995 staffers working in the areas of technology, digital media, data, and analytics on primary and general election presidential campaigns during the 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2016 election cycles.
We conducted 45 in-depth interviews with women in these roles to gain insight on their experiences, as well as recommendations for how the field can better achieve equity in political technology. In one interview, a woman said, “It is so male-dominated and that’s just the culture, and so they get away with a lot. They’re buddies with so and so, and there is that like boys’ club mentality.”
In addition to the report, I created the logo, website, and externally-facing “guides” that repurpose our unique themes and findings into more digestable content. Check out our website and report below!
